i wouldn't actually recommend washing the herves. i bought mine about 3 years ago in paris and it was destroyed by a spin in the wash... all bubbled and wrinkled. just a word of caution.

i have a shop and carry many Herve'Chapeliers in assorted colors. The company does not rec washing, but myself personally i own 4, my weekender is tarama/light pink and tan. I carried it to market thru the subways, got it totally a mess and used it for the airlines, as it fits perfectly even stuffed, in the airline basket where you measure your bag for size. I covered it with a spray and wash product and threw it in the washer and into the dryer for five minutes...result...just like new!! If you want to wash your Herve bag, invest in a nail brush. Add a bit of mild liquid handwash, scrub a little (like you would to clean a potato) and voila, it's as good as new! Great for getting dirt off the bottom of your bag. Just hang it over a tap and it'll dry in no time. If you really want to use a machine (and I've not tried this), then use a net bag to protect your bag. But, I'd go the nail brush route...
