So why so quiet?

060606_street.jpg

Things around here at TBB have been a little quiet recently. Why? Because TBB World Headquarters have relocated to New York City! That's right. I waved good bye to Boston last week, packed up all my precious bags into a Budget truck and drove over the Triborough Bridge into Queens.

So while I'm unpacking and looking for a full time job I need a little help from you. Where are the best places to shop for bags in the NYC area? Who are the best new up and coming local bag designers? I'm especially interested in anything off the beaten path or local to Queens since I must support my new borough. Or Brooklyn since I hear there are many cool boutiques. What are some good NYC-based fashion/shopping blogs? Keep the suggestions coming!

Back to unpacking...

Check out the Brooklyn Bags website (http://www.brooklynbags.com). Designer Aaron Sciandra creates reasonably priced fabric bags custom-made to order. I did not purchase yet but hope to in the future. He was featured on a local news station and the bags look great.

You might check out www.forum.purseblog.com . Very informative and lots of ladies posting about deals and stores in New York. Good luck in your new hometown!

Congrats on the move! My husband (then boyfriend) and I lived in Queens for awhile and really liked the area. I can't give you many recommendations for bag places in Queens, but if you need a good Greek restaurant to go to, feel free to email me ;)

That's my nabe! Ditmars station, right?
Mimi's closet on 31st street between 21st ave and Ditmars has a bag collection by my friend mari Takeuchi. Very new but still under the radar, and very cute! I'll probably start selling my jewelry there too.

Check out 31St. Ave. between 32 and 34 Sts. Look for "Loveday31". The owner used to be a buyer for Screaming Mimi's, a well known vintage shop in NOHO.
She is very supportive of small local (Astoria/LIC) shops and local designers, artists, and musicians. You'd do good to network with her.

Check out Elezar (www.elezar.com). They're a bag design company based out of New York! Their site also gives names of shops where their bags are sold...which also happen to be wonderful for browsing some of the coolest bags around!

Do you know the brand Cover-B? They're out of Berlin. Their designs are unusual, sleek and almost architectural. Amazing quality. I own 6 of them in different colors. You can see a collection at the Dahesh Museum on Madison at 57th, or a few images on their site www.cover-b.de. Priced around $300 perbad, they're not cheap but definitely worth the money.

For interesting bags, check out Kate Spade in Soho.

I moved here from Boston almost 4 years ago and never looked back. Welcome to NYC!

now that you're a new yorker you'll need a bag to haul all your stuff around w/o breaking your back. Check out the Reisenthel bags at Conran shop (under 59th st bridge/1st ave) $19 in many colors, converts from a small laptop-size bag when folded into a groovy rolling cart that REALLY works and is REALLY easy to open & close. The wheels don't break off and I have hauled some very heavy stuff in mine!!
